Service User Testimonial

Our service user joined our Chrysalis Project group, which supports women affected by domestic violence. She had been impacted by abuse for eight years and as a result, felt isolated and cut off from her family and friends, leaving her lonely and terrified to start over. On top of this, she was left in debt, which added further strain on her home life and mental wellbeing. Determined to take back her power, she reached out to Women’s Aid, who referred her to our program. When she first joined, she was anxious, struggled to express her feelings and often seemed overwhelmed, but she took the brave step of seeking support and beginning her journey toward healing.

During her time with us, we provided a safe and supportive space where she could connect with others in similar situations. We moved at her pace, offering holistic and peer support to help her gradually lower her barriers. After a few weeks, we noticed a visible change in her mood she seemed lighter, more confident and more relaxed. There were days when she joined the group feeling low, but after therapy sessions, she was able to open up and engage fully.

Through one-to-one support, we identified that she could benefit from additional services in the community, including the Tackling Poverty Team, Aura, Home Energy Scotland and Chris’s House.

After participating in our peer support group, Elaine expressed interest in volunteering and challenging herself further. She started by helping with admin at the Thursday Hub to ease into volunteering and has now shared her aspiration to provide holistic therapies herself. She is eager to give back to the community, showing deep appreciation for the support she has received.

Service User Comment:

“I’m so grateful I found the Hub, I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much! I quickly realised that I’m not alone and that I’m stronger than I thought. I feel more able to face life, knowing that what happened to me was not my fault and that I won’t be judged. I’m really looking forward to coming back and volunteering, so I can give back to a service that has truly changed the way I see life”.
