Service User Testimonial

Our six-week youth program “Positive Pathways” was created to engage vulnerable young people in North Lanarkshire who may be at risk of isolation, poor mental health or disengagement from education and community life.

The Health and Wellness Hub offered low-pressure group social sessions where attendees were able to chat about anything worrying them as well as general socialising and where they could try holistic therapies. This gave them opportunities to explore different wellbeing and stress management techniques.

One young person regularly engaged with the first block of the program. He told us that his mum saw the group advertised online and encouraged him to give it a go.

He told us that he really enjoyed trying the therapies- some he found a bit overstimulating but having the opportunity to try taster length sessions allowed him to find what worked for him. He found a face massage the most relaxing!

He is keen to develop skills during the next block of the program. Particularly, he said that in group settings he is sometimes quieter and more reserved but is keen to work on being more comfortable talking in groups and building relationships. He said on the first day he was really nervous but over the few weeks he has attended it has become “easy” and he is apprehensive but looking forward to a more regular group dynamic, but one where we can support him and let him come out his shell at his own pace.

He said that sometimes he can find certain environments overwhelming but through an initial low pressure relaxed social group where we played games and kept the conversation largely casual, rather than jumping into skill based or mental health focused sessions, has allowed him to trust us and built up his confidence enough that he now sees The Hub as a safe place to step outside of his comfort zone in the future block and has already opened up to us.
